Voice Over Agent

There are a few very successful voice over performers who do not use an agent. They often specialize in a certain niche of the business such as television promos, radio imaging, auto dealership commercials, or phone prompts. They stay busy with their own client base and prefer not to have voiceover agents.

The rest of us need voice over agents. Producers and casting agents will look to agents they know and trust to recommend the type of talent they are looking for. Scripts are faxed or emailed to the agent to be auditioned. The agent will then arrange for the talent they think right for the job to record the audition. The recorded material is then sent back to the producer or casting agent for selection. Increasingly this is all being done via the Internet.

Finding A Voice Over Agent

If you are looking for a voice over agent keep the following in mind: They should be licensed by the state they operate in. They should never ask for money from you with the exception of small fees to defray the costs of placing your demo on their website or master cd. They earn their money with commissions from earnings they book for you. They should have a very strong Internet presence. You must have a voice over demo.

Run fast, run far from any agent who insists that you use only their approved demo producer, studio, printer, CD duplicator, web host, or similar services. If they say you must use only “their people” you can bet they are getting kick-backs. On the other hand, AFTRA/SAG franchised agents or those who follow a similar business model are prohibited from such underhanded business practices and are held to higher standards of conduct.

Here are a few websites that might help you find a voiceover agent. They will have instructions on how to submit your materials on their sites.
