Voice Acting
Perhaps voice acting is the purest form of acting. There is only an actor, a script, and a microphone. There are no visable movements, facial expressions or gestures to aid in portraying a character. It must all be done with the voice.
When good voice over talent steps up to the mic he or she brings more than just a voice. The voice actor makes sure the script has been studied to determine the main message to be communicated. Important words and phrases have been noted for special treatment. A character has been quickly created to make the message more interesting and believable even if the job is just a 30 second radio commercial.
The Art of Voice Acting
Breathing life into the most mundane script is what separates the voice actor from the announcer. Voice acting is easier when you’re reading lines for “Zugourd: Defender of The Universe.” It’s not so easy when you are trying to sell bricks over the radio.
James R. Alburger has written a great book on the subject. Look for “The Art of Voice Acting” at a book store near you.
