Radio

Bill first got into radio in New Mexico straight out of high school. A friend who worked at a small station in Ruidoso taught Bill the basics and how to run the board. There was a trip to L.A. for the FCC license test then back to wait for an opening. It only took about a week. The night DJ’s career strategy included drinking and falling asleep on the air.

Then it was off to New Mexico State University for a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications and work on the campus radio and TV stations and local station KGRT. The next stop was El Paso with stints at KELP and KFIM. Then on to St. Louis just in time for the KSLQ to KYKY flip before landing in Dallas for mornings at KMEZ. Went from playing Pink Floyd to Percy Faith in two weeks. Musical whiplash.
