About Bill Pryce
Who is this guy? And has he ever been to Spain?
Bill Pryce spent the first 15 years of his life in Sacramento, California. It was a great place to grow up. Only ninety minutes away from the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada to the east or the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean to the west. He neither surfed nor skied. But helps explain how he can do voiceovers out of Dallas twang-free.
Bitten by the radio bug...
As well as his wife-to-be, Dianne, Bill moved on to New
Mexico State University and earned a BA degree in Journalism
and Mass Communication. Much to his parent’s delight, he
immediately became a disk jockey. Not just any DJ, but a
silly one. From KRRR, KGRT and the campus
stations KRWG-AM/FM and TV, it was on to KELP and KFIM in
El Paso, KSLQ/KYKY in St. Louis, to KMEZ in Dallas-Ft. Worth.
Due to a flair for writing and producing, or maybe just actually showing up for work every day, Bill found himself appointed Production Director at most of the above stations.
In moving from radio to voiceovers...
The first task was to learn to read copy from an entirely
different perspective. Learn how to get inside the writer's
head, discover the backstory, and let the actor emerge.
Learn how to evoke the "feel" of the read and
forget about the sound of the voice...how to listen and
bridge the gap between what the director wants and the words
he is using to direct...how to stay in character during
that funeral home read while the studio kitten plays with
your shoelaces. And how to not roll your eyes when the director
says we’ve got everything we need, but can you do one more
take and try to sound a little more "orange".
He’s never been to Spain.
But he’s been to Oklahoma.
